Rebecca Joyce - Photography Instructor

My 20-year career in photography has taken me on incredible adventures like photographing a professional bike race, to fun nights of photographing concerts, and to intimate moments in people’s lives through photographing weddings and family portraits. It is also a highly technical career. First as a photo lab technician making sure that I made the best quality prints for my clients, more recently in sales of photography equipment where I’ve had the pleasure of working with both novices and professionals in advising them on the best gear for their needs. This more recent part requires knowing almost all of the gear that is on the market and how to use it, as well as understanding my clients needs no matter how complex the task. My technical knowledge and expertise has put me the position as Brand Ambassador for both Leica and Panasonic Lumix, and I’ve even taken part of the live launch events for new products.

While all of these aspects of my many jobs are fantastic, there is one part that I love the most: teaching.

I love helping a new photographer pick out their first camera, but helping them learn to use it, learn photography, and watching their inspiration and creativity come to life is just beautiful, and it is how I see myself giving back to the art form that has given me so much.

Learning photography is twofold: there is the theory, the art form, the history, techniques, etc., that we typically learn in classes or books. Then there is the equipment itself, the details of which we learn from brand representatives or the valuable camera shop staff.

I’m in the unique position to offer both. With years of training with equipment manufacturers and experience as a working photographer, I can help you learn photography while mastering your equipment to bring your creative vision to life.
